The Spin Dye Jig Rig has been one of my best-selling products for years… but also one of the most misunderstood.
So I decided to redesign it.
What started as a few small improvements quickly turned into a deep dive into 3D printing, product design, failed prototypes, print issues, ergonomics, tolerances, and eventually… a completely new system built from the ground up.
In this video, I walk through:
- Why I redesigned Dave’s Spin Dye Jig Rig
- The problems with the original version
- What I learned from years of 3D printing
- How I improved the design while using LESS material
- The story behind the new D.A.V.E.’S system
- The expanding pulley mechanism that inspired it
- And where this project is headed next
D.A.V.E.’S stands for:
Dave’s Automatic Variable Expander System
It’s a new auto-centering disc dyeing jig that uses an expanding pulley mechanism to grip either the inner or outer rim of a disc.
And honestly… this might just be the beginning. Would love to hear your thoughts in the comments. What would YOU want in the ultimate disc dyeing jig?
If you’re a Dyers Guild member, I’ll be opening prototype access before the public release because I want real feedback from real disc dyers before this thing officially launches.
